Early morning. A gentle hum comes breezing in from Kalelarga, a
magical street celebrated in many local songs. Go out for a walk.
Meet some locals in nearby cafés, or maybe even learn a word or
two in Croatian. The word pjaca sounds good. Head over there and
visit the market for fresh produce and other goods, straight out
of Zadar’s fertile land and the sea.
If you
don’t feel like cooking, there are many places to find great food
in Zadar. Most of the restaurants offer a wide variety of
sea-foods and other dishes.
Explore the beauty
of the town and its local traditions. You can find 34 churches in
the old town of Zadar. The church of St. Donatus is the most
famous monumental edifice in Croatia from the Early Middle Ages
(9th c.). The bell tower of St. Anastasia´s Cathedral features an
observation deck from where you can see the whole city. As for
other churches, we'll let you discover them on your own.
Ancient architecture doesn't stop there. The Roman
Forum, located in front of the church of St. Donatus was
commissioned by the first roman emperor Augustus. The Forum was
the central spot where the city's public life unfolded. The
University of Zadar is one of the oldest universities in Europe.
It was founded by members of the Dominican order in the 14th
century. The building serves as a monument to the tradition of
education in Croatia.
Alfred Hitchcock
famously declared Zadar to have the world's most beautiful
sunset. If the great master of darkness was left amazed, it
surely has to be something special. Thousands upon thousands
photographs can't be wrong – catch the best view from the
Greeting to the Sun installation. Add to that the continuous
stream of beautiful music chiming from the Sea organ, and we
guarantee you that you'll never forget this unique experience.
The sun has set. Zadar offers a wide variety of things
to do in the evening. You can choose from the traditional
Dalmatian fešta and its exquisite foods, singing and fine wines,
or you can choose to check out the Zadar’s rich nightlife scene.
Visit The Garden lounge bar with its incredible terrace
overlooking the city. After you finish your cocktails, check out
the rest of the club scene. Take a trip to Zrće bay or the small
town of Tisno, both famous for hosting the best parties in this
part of Europe.
